I just got my little brother their Metropolis DVD and we're loving it. They're kind of like the Pink Floyd of heavy metal.

My science teacher first got me into these guys... they were one of the few bands that I fell in love with instantly. Screw phsyics and biology, this band was the best thing I learned about all year. They are THE most talented band I've ever heard. Favourite album at the moment would have to be Scenes From A Memory, closely followed by Train Of Thought.

New CD, June 5th. It's gonna be fucking amazing. Only problem I've seen with it so far is that they broke the epic into two pieces. Ah well, I bet it'll still be great. Also hoping to catch them on tour, but I still need to find a way to make money...

I watched a recent video of them, my bass player is into DT. What I like is that Mike Portnoy has his own Asian guy. All he does is pop up, move cymbals, and hold the microphone stand so John can do backups and then he fades to the back until he's needed again. You know you're the man on the kit when you have your own manservant.

Sheeeit. Good band. Really good. Partially because I can sing like the guy, and it's prog. Wait... That's it. Oh yeah, good guitarist and drummer too. And good writing of music.

...

Yeah.

Oh my god! I was just watching a video on YouTube, and noticed the little Asian guy sitting there behind him... it made my day.

Yeah, Panic Attack is good. The thing with Octavarium is that it's got a few REALLY good tracks [eg. Octavarium] and a few meh tracks. It's still an amazing album though. All of the albums with Rudess are killer. I'd reccomend the new one if you haven't picked it up/checked it out yet. It's both heavy and proggy.

i bought "Awake" the other day. i love how 6:00 is so 90's.

I Walk Beside You is so U2 it's not funny. Last night they ended off the concert with the last part of Octavarium, [Razor's Edge] and it was epic as fuck.

Awake's pretty cool. It took me a while to get into the album, but it's got some nice moments. Probably their darkest album. I love Space Dye Vest, and the A Mind Beside Itself suite is pretty awesome. The only song they played off the album was Scarred though.

Yeah i quite like them...

HOWEVER - i dont have the patience for a lot of that prog stuff. All those funny noises and stupid rundowns which are impressive but IMO sound way too OTT. I prefer it when they just play their music.

But, agreed, they are AMAZING musicians. You can watch this thing on youtube where someone has dubbed over petrucci's voice in a video where he talks about all his gear and stuff.

'Now people think this pedalboard is for changing my guitar but really it's for killing people...'

Haha its well funny!

They are amazing but they arent a favourite simply because i dont like prog very much...
