Rhapsody (of Fire) is a legendary Swordmetal Master. Right up there with Manowar, this band from Italy is another group that is just absolutely incredible. They call their music, "Film Score Metal", for good reason. Rhapsody's music defines the term "Epic" in the metal sense. Their website and album covers are filled with dragons and swords, and they even got Christopher Lee (Sarumon) to do the narrating on one of their albums. Fuckin' awesome!
There is nothing more awesome than two brothers of metal combining their power to create a musical masterpiece. That's what Demons & Wizards is. This is a side project featuring Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth. Combining the heavy crunch and dark melodies of Iced Earth with the powerful vocals and bombastic choirs of Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards is like a combination of those two excellent bands, and at the same time, creates a new kind of swordmetal monster. Demons & Wizards will seize the day!
Iced Earth continue to fly high the banner of true metal in the US. Musically this band is a blend of traditional metal, power metal, and thrash. Their dark melodies, heavy crunch, and epic songwriting are sure to please any sword metal warrior. IE has faced many obstacles, from constant lineup changes [guitarist/songwriter Jon Schaffer being the only constant member] to poor treatment from record labels and the media. But still they march on, refusing to submit to trends or comprimise artistic integrity. In doing so, Iced Earth has earned their place in the sword metal kingdom. The revolution is coming... let the burning times of man begin!
What do trolls like to do? Hunt goblins, run around mountains and forests, kill things and feature in folklore and tales of old. The aim of Finntroll is to capture this lifestyle in their music, through traditional Scandinavian folk and black metal, resulting in what is commonly known as folk, or viking metal. The aggressive, fast paced, yet entertaining aspect of Finntroll allows for prancing around and discovery of the inner troll that hides within us all.
Sonata Arctica is one of those bands that possess so much raw natural talent and amazing song-writing that most people are sold even after a first listen.
3iob hail from Vancover, B.C, Canada. they're sound is like early metallica meets cellador with a cup of black metal mixed in there. they've got face smashing riffs, blistering solos and screeching and screaming dual vocals. they're lyrics range from slaughtering hordes of orcs and epic gladiator battles to a giant nuclear killing machine called a wykydtron

FUCKIN VIKING METAL! Since their humble start in 1992 as an underground band from Tumba, a suburb in southern Stockholm, AMON AMARTH have managed to establish themselves as one of Europe’s top death metal acts through hard work, relentless touring, and consistently solid albums. What has set AMON AMARTH apart from the rest of the death metal scene since the very beginning, is their use of Viking mythology and imagery in lyrics and artwork, as well as a talent for writing epic, memorable melodies, which underline their solemn yet barbaric approach to heavy music. Beware the wrath of the Norsemen!
I've been lucky enough to have listened to Annihilator since their debut album Alice in Hell (1989). They've just gotten better & better with time. Solid riffs. Melodic Thrash is a good label for these dudes. Jeff's managed to put together a distinct sound that doesn't get boring after 20 years.
There are a few moments where I almost think that Jeff's channeled T-Ride in the bass line on Metal (2008), which IMO is not a bad thing.
If you're a fan of classic metal and classic thrash, then do yourself the favor of checking out Annihilator.
Avantasia is the brainchild of Tobias Sammet of Edguy fame. Tobias manages to get some of the finest power metal and progressive metal artists to combine their efforts here to tell a story of epic sword metal proportions. featuring such talents as Micheal Kiske, David DeFeis, Rob Rock, Kai Hansen, Timo Tolkki, Roy Khan, and countless others... this is about as epic as it gets!
Bal-Sagoth's name comes from Robert E. Howard's story entitled "The Gods Of Bal-Sagoth." The peerless power of the mighty Bal-Sagoth is truly a wondrous and sublimely disturbing thrill-ride for all those brave and imaginitive souls who have ever craved music which is exciting, entertaining, enchanting and wholly enthralling! No other band captures the imagination like Bal-Sagoth... no other band has carved for themselves such a unique place in the annals of musical history, reigning supreme as the true kings of bombastic baroque Britannic battle-metal! All hail Bal-Sagoth!
Possibly one of the most influential bands in metal, Bathory are known for creating both black and Viking metal. On their fourth album, Blood Fire Death, Bathory began experimenting with more epic styles of songwriting, and changed thier lyrical focus from Satanism to Norse mythology. On Hammerheart, they did away with the harsh vocal style in favour of clean vocals and viking-like choirs, and in the process, became the world's first viking metal band.
Now this band is fucking sword! They actually have the balls to call themselves "Epic Fantasy Metal". C'mon, how sword is that? Take the melodic, elven singing of Kaisa Jouhki with the scorching, orkish growls of Tomi Mykkanen and set it against the epic, bombastic soundscape and lyrics paying tribute to the great J.R.R. Tolkien... this band is just fucking sword and that's all there is to it! Let Battlelore show you flashes from the smoky tavern at Umbar, through the green fields of Rohan, and finally to the deepest dungeons of Moria. Gather your belongings, clean up your weapons, and prepare for WAR!
"Old-school all the way, BATTLERAGE’s style should bring in mind bands like OMEN, ’harsh’ MANOWAR, SACRED STEEL, IRONSWORD, MANILLA ROAD, GRAVE DIGGER and PARAGON." Grigoris (Metal-Temple)
The world of metal first came to know Tim "the Ripper" Ownes when he sang for the legendary metal band, Judas Priest, and later Iced Earth. Now he has a new band that he has put together himself called Beyond Fear, and it may just be the best thing Ripper has ever done. Those searching for some quality, screaming, heavy metal, Beyond Fear deliver the goods. SCREAM MACHINE!!!
11-04-2007 09:55 PM Sledgeworx There are very few bands in my collection that I got into after less than a 2 minute introduction. Iced Earth is one such band.
I was getting ready to go see Iron Maiden and
