Odds are if you found this site, you have probably already heard these Swordmetal Masters. They have produced over 10 albums of Sword madness and are one of the most legendary metal bands in existence. Their fuckin' website is called, "The Kingdom of Steel". Come on...how Sword is that?! Though they don't sing about Dragons and Trolls and shit, they wield swords that could slay said Dragons if they so decided.

They are the self-proclaimed "Kings of Metal". I've yet to meet anyone who disagrees.

Rhapsody of Fire

Rhapsody (of Fire) is a legendary Swordmetal Master. Right up there with Manowar, this band from Italy is another group that is just absolutely incredible. They call their music, "Film Score Metal", for good reason. Rhapsody's music defines the term "Epic" in the metal sense. Their website and album covers are filled with dragons and swords, and they even got Christopher Lee (Sarumon) to do the narrating on one of their albums. Fuckin' awesome!

Iced Earth continue to fly high the banner of true metal in the US. Musically this band is a blend of traditional metal, power metal, and thrash. Their dark melodies, heavy crunch, and epic songwriting are sure to please any sword metal warrior. IE has faced many obstacles, from constant lineup changes [guitarist/songwriter Jon Schaffer being the only constant member] to poor treatment from record labels and the media. But still they march on, refusing to submit to trends or comprimise artistic integrity. In doing so, Iced Earth has earned their place in the sword metal kingdom. The revolution is coming... let the burning times of man begin!

The aim of Finntroll is to capture this lifestyle in their music, through traditional Scandinavian folk and black metal, resulting in what is commonly known as folk, or viking metal. I've been lucky enough to have listened to Annihilator since their debut album Alice in Hell (1989). They've just gotten better & better with time. Solid riffs. Melodic Thrash is a good label for these dudes. Jeff's managed to put together a distinct sound that doesn't get boring after 20 years.

There are a few moments where I almost think that Jeff's channeled T-Ride in the bass line on Metal (2008), which IMO is not a bad thing.

If you're a fan of classic metal and classic thrash, then do yourself the favor of checking out Annihilator.

Bathory

Possibly one of the most influential bands in metal, Bathory are known for creating both black and Viking metal. On their fourth album, Blood Fire Death, Bathory began experimenting with more epic styles of songwriting, and changed thier lyrical focus from Satanism to Norse mythology. On Hammerheart, they did away with the harsh vocal style in favour of clean vocals and viking-like choirs, and in the process, became the world's first viking metal band.
